My father in law Edward John McCue passed away on April 12, 2006. He died from bone and prostate cancer which the doctors believe was caused from exposure to agent orange while stationed aboard the USS Intrepid in 1968. The ship had gone into the shipyard for repairs and he was pulled from the ship and put on a coastal patrol boat in Vietnam. When his father passed away he was pulled from Vietnam, flown home, and then transferred to the USS Roosevelt. When his service records arrived on the Roosevlet, all indications of him being moved into Vietnam had been struck from his record. My mother in law is having problems with the VA as she has no proof that he "set foot on land". Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I do not know what division he was in. When he was discharged from the Navy he was a Boiler Tech second class.

Additional information I have received since this posting is as follows:
He was in the My Tho Delta/My Tho River area from 02/68-08/68 on a river patrol boat. He was in a hospital in Vietnam before being transferred back to the ship due to injuries he received while in the river. He was presented a Bronze Star and Purple Heart while in the hospital, but after returning to the ship it had never been entered into his service record and he was told that "you were never there (My Tho Delta) and this never happened (his injuries). My husband remembers him saying that there were 9 men sent to the My Tho River and he was the only one that made it back alive.
When they changed the rules for the ships that were stationed off shore during the Vietnam war, my mother-in-law re filed the paperwork for her claims to the VA. The VA is saying that they show no record of the Intrepid being off shore in Vietnam during the time frame that the laws were changed for.

My Uncle Harry Evans served between 1940 - 1948. He served with an officer named Rumsey. He also was a gunner on a plane and it went down, they survived on raw fish. This is all we remember at this time. Still searching for anything else or who knew him.
